Diapets is an iOS app in which children take care of a dragon that has type 1 diabetes and, in doing so, learn to take care of themselves.
This app was developed alongside a nutritionalist and endocrinologists.
I am one of the 5 cofounders, as well as the sole designer, animator and sound designer. I've also been responsible for writing, storyboarding, shooting and animating 2 promotional videos for the app. Finally, I've done work as a coder too, implementing front end functionalities.

Gameplay
In Diapets, kids take care Flippy, who also has Juvenile Diabetes. To do that, they must check his blood sugar levels, feed him and apply insulin on him (according to the size of his meal) every three hours.
You can also pet Flippy and interact with his environment. The suit of armor, bed, pans and fireplace can all be played with.
Gamification through Star Points
During the game, kids get Star points when they check their blood sugar and input their meals on the appropriate times.
Applying insulin on your Dragon
In this screen, kids can apply insulin on their dragon after a meal. This is one of kids' favorite interactions in the game. We've witnessed them comfort the dragon while he's scared, and laugh when he overcomes his fear of needles.
Carb Counting Game
The Carb Counting game was developed alongside Débora Lopes (CRN: 08100358), a Brazilian nutritionist specialized in Type 1 Diabetes. Usually, kids have to look at long and boring spreadsheets to evaluate how many carbs they're eating. This game was a success with both doctors and patients alike, being more engaging and fun for kids to work with and learn from.
